The Sydney Metro – Barangaroo Station project delivered one of six new metro stations on the Sydney Metro City and Southwest project. BESIX Watpac’s scope of works included the installation of underground station platforms, lifts and escalators, northern entrance, Hickson Road precinct works including road, footpath, cycleway, landscaping, street lighting, utilities and ventilation pod risers.
The Judging Panel shortlisted the project for BESIX Watpac’s management of challenges throughout the project’s delivery, including the complex interface between separate corridor contracting parties, scope variations and large quantities of silica. The Panel recognised BESIX Watpac’s commitment to sustainability in the project, including reducing 14 per cent of the project’s CO2 emissions through the use of 50 per cent Supplementary Cementitious Material concrete, utilising pre-cast panels, steel procured from Responsible Steel Makers and using energy-reduced processing techniques.
