The $2.6 billion Sydney Gateway project delivered a new connection from Sydney’s motorway network to Sydney Airport, connecting the M5 and M8 to the Domestic Terminals from Southwest Sydney and the South Coast, the M4 and M8 to the Domestic and International Terminals from West and Northwest Sydney, and the M8 to the Domestic and International Terminals from the CBD and Inner West. No additional tolls apply to use the new connection.
The Judging Panel acknowledged the collaboration between the public and private sector participants to leverage each party’s expertise to deliver the project, achieving strong outcomes and operational efficiency. The Panel commended the partnership’s incorporation of technologies that enabled adaptability to the challenges of opening new transport infrastructure, particularly communication tools and transport and traffic systems.
