Kangaroo Point Bridge

Kangaroo Point Bridge

The Kangaroo Point Bridge provides a 460-metre river crossing between Brisbane’s CBD and Kangaroo Point, forming a key connection between the eastern suburbs and the city centre, integrating with Brisbane’s wider transport network. The bridge features twin cable-stayed spans with dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths, improving safety and access to the existing active transport network. Delivered under an Early Contractor Involvement model, the project incorporates sustainable design elements such as solar panels powering lighting and lift access. As a vibrant landmark destination, it offers shelter, lookout points, and dining venues, with usage exceeding expectations — attracting over 10,800 crossings per day, more than 75 per cent above forecasts.

The Judging Panel recognised Arup and Cox Architecture for their expert advice during the project’s reference design phase, addressing complex site constraints and guiding the procurement process. The Panel commended their collaborative approach in supporting Brisbane City Council through the early stages of development, effectively managing challenges such as flood resilience and alignment, heritage considerations, land use restrictions, and navigational requirements, while ensuring accessibility and maintaining safe passage for river vessels.
