The $380 million Bruce Highway Upgrade – Cooroy to Curra Section D2 (Gympie Bypass) project included construction of 18 kilometres of new highway between Sandy Creek and Curra, realignments to local roads, 19 bridges, and a new interchange at Curra. The project included more than two million hours worked LTI-free; installation of a six-kilometre pipeline providing construction water supply; and the planning, design and construction of 106 erosion and sediment control basins to manage all stages of construction, from clearing and bulk earthworks to final pavement works.

The Judging Panel shortlisted the project for being delivered on time and on budget, and commended CPB Contractors for navigating a variety of challenges to the project’s delivery, including modifications to the employment strategy after the contract was awarded, and the impacts of flooding during construction. The Panel also recognised the positive social impact of the project, with high levels of local and First Nations employment opportunities.
