Government Infrastructure Funding

Our Government Infrastructure Funding Analysis uses data from Commonwealth, state and territory budgets to provide a comprehensive view of the relative importance of infrastructure funding in each jurisdiction and how this has changed over time.

Our analysis provides details on the total level of general government sector funding in infrastructure committed to in each budget year as well as forecasts of funding over the forward estimates.

Additionally, we are able to compare which jurisdictions are funding the most, relative to the size of each economy, by showing how much infrastructure funding is taking place as a proportion of total expenditure in the general government sector.

This chart shows total general government sector infrastructure funding by jurisdiction. The data comprises historical actual figures, estimated funding levels for the current budget year and forecasts for the forward estimates. Infrastructure funding levels are recorded in constant prices.
>
Each jurisdiction reports on infrastructure funding using a different methodology, for this reason our analysis uses general government sector spending on infrastructure or capital expenditure where available. In jurisdictions where infrastructure funding is not reported separately, our analysis uses purchases of non-financial assets as a proxy.
